“I believe in the universal laws of spiritual activity and involvement. I have faith and belief that I am surrounded by entities that are there to assist and guide me if I am willing to reach out and work with them. However, I recognize that their involvement is by their choice and I should not think that they exist to do my bidding. It is in my best interest to begin and nurture a relationship with them so that we are comfortable with each other. The more I work with them, the more they will understand me and know my sincerity.”
I have been exposed to Witchcraft since early childhood. However, in my family we didn't give it that name. It wasn't considered a 'craft' or even something that was out of the ordinary. It was just what my mother and my aunts did. I was 10 years old when I was told to light a pink candle to 'encourage' a boy in my class to like me (candle magick). At the age of 11, I was told that I would have 3 children; 2 girls and 1 boy. My aunt foretold of this by using a needle threaded on a piece of scrap thread (pendulum divination). My mom removed a friends boil using milk and bread (kitchen witchery). We used the Ouija board to communicate with the otherworld and my mom and aunts used a process called 'table talk' to communicate with my dead grandfather after he had passed (mediumship).
I went 'mainstream' as a young adult. I had 3 young children and wanted to give them a normal childhood, so taking them to church is what I thought I should do. I was baptized in the 2nd Baptist Church so I attended a Christian church . I soon realized that the doctrine of Christianity didn't feed my spirit. And that is what began my search for a spiritual practice that not only fed my spirit but also where I could grow spirituality. The journey began over 30 years ago when I bought my first Tarot deck. I soon began collecting books on Witchcraft and alternative spirituality. I searched and I found other like minded people and joined my first coven.
Today, I call myself a Eclectic Witch. I have belonged in several covens but now I work the craft as a solitary. I am a child of the Goddess and have dedicated myself to the Goddess Isis. In my quest to become spiritually attuned I have explored the benefits of using herbs, essential oils, crystals and candles in my magickal workings. I am in my third year of a Shamanic Practioner where I am honing my skills of a healer and diviner. I extend my knowledge to you in my offerings and hope that by using them you can become closer to your Divine Spirit.
I wanted the name of my shop to associate with my spiritual orientation and to emphasize that I will never stop working towards my alignment with the Divine Spirit and my relationship with it. I agonized for weeks over what the perfect name should be. And then I saw it (of course not for the first time) but while traveling to work one day. I saw the 'Triskele' symbol. I immediately had a feeling of excitement and absolute knowing. I just knew this sign had to be a part of my business. Now the question was 'how do I incorporate the symbol and it's meaning into my shop?.' Easy, use both the word and the symbol. But the word 'Triskele' didn't seem complete on its own. Something was missing. I wanted to impart the process of my learning and how it is never ending. My spiritual path has been filled with wonder, surprises and a few heart aches. But all in all, it has been an amazing 'Odyssey'. So there you have it. 'Triskele Odyssey, the naming of my business evolved like so many other facets of my life. Picking and choosing, discarding and adding. Until finally, the perfect blend is achieved. I have included below the definitions of 'Triskele' and 'Odyssey' so that you can see what concepts I wanted to impart for my business.
Derived from the Greek word "Triskeles" meaning "three legs", the Triskele or Triple Spiral is a complex ancient Celtic symbol. Often referred to by many as a Triskelion, its earliest creation dates back to the Neolithic era, as it can be seen at the entrance of Newgrange, Ireland. The Triskele gained popularity in its use within the Celtic culture from 500BC onwards. This archaic symbol is one of the most convoluted to decipher as symbolists believe it is reflective of many areas of culture from the time.Firstly, the triskele can be thought to represent motion as all three arms are positioned to make it appear as if it is moving outwards from its center. Movement, or motion, is believed to signify energies, in particular within this Celtic Symbol the motion of action, cycles, progress, revolution and competition.Secondly, and the more challenging area for symbolists, is the exact symbolic significance of the three arms of the triskele. This can differ dependent on the era, culture, mythology and history, which is why there are so many variations as to what these three extensions in the triple spiral symbol mean. Some of these connotations include: life-death-rebirth, spirit-mind-body, mother-father-child, past-present-future, power-intellect-love and creation-preservation-destruction to name but a few. It’s thought that through the combination of these two areas we gain one meaning of the Celtic triskele. It is believed to represent a tale of forward motion to reach understanding. However, this is thought not to be the only meaning, as it is also believed to represent three Celtic worlds; the spiritual world, the present world and the celestial world. Like the ancient Trinity knot, the number 3 holds a special symbolism within the triskele.
'Odyssey' is one of the great epics of ancient Greece, the Odyssey tells the story of the struggles and triumphs of the hero Odysseus as he made his way home after the Trojan War*. Pursued by the sea god Poseidon*, but aided both by his own cunning and by the goddess Athena*, Odysseus overcame countless obstacles during his long journey home. Along the way, he lost his ships, his crew, and the riches he had gained at Troy. The Odyssey is believed to be the work of the Greek poet Homer, who also composed the Iliad.
Today the word is incorporated into the English language being defined as:
A long wandering or voyage usually marked by many changes of fortune
An intellectual or spiritual wandering or quest
